About Castlemilk Gardening Club

Gardening Club

The club was founded in 1988, in the year of the Garden Festival. The membership comprises mostly retired members of the Castlemilk, Kings Park, Croftfoot and Sims Hill area. The club is now in its 23rd year.

Members are free to attend any day of the week and are each allocated a place inside the large greenhouses, a small cold frame outside, and in some cases, a small plot generally used for growing vegetables etc.

Membership fees are £5 per month and club meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month.

Gardening Club

As well as plants grown by members, plug plants are purchased each year in April and are usually ready for sale to the local residents from mid May. A wide selection of bedding plants and some shrubs are available at competitive prices. These sales finance the club's expenditure on heating, plants and compost.

In the last three or four years, grants have been secured to improve the condition of the old greenhouses and this year, a new roof financed by the Lottery Fund (Awards For All) has been secured.

Looking to the future, grant applications while hopefully will be helped by the granting of charitable status in late 2009, further developments would cover a new roof for Number 1 greenhouse and consideration of an alternative heating system, which would be greener and more efficient.

Castlemilk Gardening Club Plant Sale 2011
